Production, mobility, communication or trade builds the fundament for prosperity, growth and peace for an industrial nation like Germany. The backbone for this is a reliable, affordable and permanently available energy supply. This is precisely what is undergoing a fundamental change - from historically grown infrastructures to interactive, digitized and automated systems.
We are of the opinion that the digitization of critical energy supply infrastructures can only be made successful and responsible with a highly interdisciplinary approach. Today and in the future, no research institution can do this on its own. Based on the existing excellence of RWTH Aachen University, the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT), the Fraunhofer Institute for Communication, Information Processing and Ergonomics (FKIE), the Research Center Finance & Information Management (FIM) and the Institute for High Voltage Technology of RWTH Aachen University (IFHT) want to establish a new research association on the topic of "Digital Energy". As a first step of the cooperation we are currently establishing an interdisciplinary research department "Digital Energy".
Together we pursue the goal of combining profound knowledge from the energy sector with in-depth knowledge of cyber security, digitization and financial and information management in order to develop new and innovative methods and technologies for the operation, planning and security of digitized energy systems and markets.
